I’m not one who likes to post anything political. But as I was reading Mark’s blog, I came across a post that is very interesting. He aptly entitled it Trading Freedom for Safety: Right Wing Edition.
At the end of his post, he says this:
I wouldn’t want to live in a society that attempted to make terrorism impossible. It is the freedoms we enjoy that make us vulnerable. …No matter how much you mortgage your freedom in the interest of safety, you’ll never be safe.
At the end of the post, there’s a link to LewRockwell.com with an article “Freedom vs. Security: A False Choice” by Rep. Ron Paul, MD. I read it and I was agreeing with the things that were being said. Ultimately, I was surprised that I actually agreed with a political article. Further browsing of the site made me realize that it was a Libertarian site. Hah! And what am I? Well, in my previous post, I am apparently a Libertarian based on the results of the short quiz.
America was founded by men who understood that the threat of domestic tyranny is as great as any threat from abroad. If we want to be worthy of their legacy, we must resist the rush toward ever-increasing state control of our society. Otherwise, our own government will become a greater threat to our freedoms than any foreign terrorist.
Anyway, Libertarian or not, I think Dr. Ron Paul’s article is a must-read!
