Livin’ La Vida Loca

I had a severe bout with allergies weeks ago. I tried to control it with Claritin-D, which always worked. But I noticed that I had developed rashes around my neck. I have never heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to Claritin-D, except for my then officemate, Judith. I didn’t quite believe her that time. I stopped taking Claritin-D and the rashes went away! I know! That was freaky - being allergic to an allergy medicine. Oh well. So, I went back to Sudafed. It helped a little bit, but it wouldn’t control the runny nose. Plus, I felt so dry under Sudafed. Finally, after being so stubborn, I went to see a doctor. I was desperate. The first doctor I went to see did nothing but prescribe me Nasarel(nasal spray) and Zaditor(eye drop). Didn’t work. But I’m glad that I had myself scheduled with an allergy specialist. He prescribed Prednisone for a week. It helped a lot! BUT, the side-effects were not so good. I was more moody than the usual. Hyperactive. Sorta like nuts. I felt like Superman. Invincible. But it also created a zombie out of me, because I couldn’t sleep. Anyway, a week goes by and I was out of meds. I called my allergy doctor and he sent a prescription for Singulair. To me, prednisone was a wonder drug. It totally took away my allergy attacks. Singulair was the best choice. It did the same, without the side effects that I suffered from prednisone. I am happy to say that my allergy is now under control!

On the work front, everything’s going smoothly. I trained a new guy and he’s doing well. There are still a few quirks, but those are easily manageable and correctable. I have not been on a business trip since the break up, April 10th. Something about flying to the east coast makes my stomach turn. But now, I’m healed. I can go again.

Living my life the way I have always wanted. I got it now. I feel like I’m living for the day, making the most out of it. As in the previous posts, I cannot stress the importance of surrounding yourself with friends who care. I have met so many new friends and I do believe they’re all good people. Well, so far, so good. I am also glad that I get the opportunity to get to know them better and for them to get to know me. Fun parties. Outrageous night outs. Bowling. Billiards. etc. It’s all good!

Tuesday, right after Memorial day, I hosted a dinner for my friends. I cooked! Yay! It has been years since I cooked for more than 2 people! Also, that was the first time I cooked for a diverse group. What did I serve? I cooked pork adobo, chicken & pork afritada, baked teriyaki salmon, grilled beef short ribs (kalbi) and steamed black tiger prawns. They loved the food! The best seller was the pork adobo! Happy campers make me happy! LOL! No, really. It’s rewarding to cook and be complimented. To Aaron, Phil, Ron, Jim, John, Kurt, Josh and Mike, thank you so much! Oh, and of course, my roommie, Jorge.

So, yeah, I’ve been in the cooking mood again. Wednesday, I cooked again, but this time, only for 3 people, plus Jorge and myself. I invited Mike back plus Matt and Tristen who weren’t able to join us Tuesday for different reasons. No time to explain. I cooked adobo again, which was a hit, friend sliced eggplant and prawns.

Today, I went back to County Square and bought ingredients for Beef Caldereta. It’s my office mate’s birthday tomorrow and I promise I’d cook a dish for the pot-luck. So, yeah, it turned out great! Jorge loved it! I hope my officemates like it tomorrow.

Anyway, that’s the update. I am happy. Not worry-free, but happy. :)
